Abstract
Taking into account the solar cult practiced by the principal civilization
in America, Jaime Lara suggests that the labor of the Spanish missionaries
on this continent consisted in the revival of certain sensual aspects of
medieval Christianity in order to make it compatible with the indigenous
peoples’ religious beliefs. Rather than a natural syncretism,
Lara proposes that a modification of Christianity and its liturgy took
place to make them consistent with the main solar cults established by
American civilizations.
