Abstract
In this paper the author suggests that the first Augustinian settlement in
the Sierra Alta was not the convent known as La Comunidad in Metztitlan,
but the iglesia de visita at San Pedro Tlatemalco. Based on a comparative
study of the dimensions of the Augustinian temples’s
frontispieces in the area, as well as on prospection of the
church’s structure, the author reaches the conclusión that this
iglesia de visita was an important architectonic complex. Upon studying the
cronology of the establishment of the Augustinian order, as well as the
geography of Metztitlan and San Pedro, he concludes that the first
Augustinian foundation took place in San Pedro.
