Abstract

Setting out from the diagnosis that present-day architecture laks deep theoretical sources of legitimization, the article profiles the problems of establishing a serious discourse on architectural production that might transcend the limits of marketing in the star system of globalized architects like Peter Eisenman and Rem Koolhaas. Against the increasing erosion of the cultural significance of architecture, the article offers a proposal to classify and review architectural forms under the idea of “reflexive modernity”, a concept that does not refer in the first place to stylistic categories but rather seeks a social and cultural contextualization with the aim of stimulating a complex appreciation of post-vanguardist architecture in its space and time.
