Abstract
Until now, the usual iconographic interpretation of Mexican atrium crosses
of the sixteenth century has related them to the Mass of St. Gregory. The
frecuent presence of the Arms of Chris t on the crosses, however, makes it
possible to relate them, rather, to the eschatological doctrines of the
late European Middle Ages. This article shows that in many cases this
connection is not just likely, but obvious.
