Abstract
Diego de Cuentas is one of the best known painters of eighteenth-century
Guadalajara. This article provides data about the artist and his family
derived from a document found in the Archives of the Real Audiencia de
Guadalajara. Information contained in litigation by the painter's
grandson against his uncle over the sale of a house sheds light on the
dynamics of the work of colonial painters in general and of this family in
particular.
